The Secret Lies With Key Remote

On many car models, the electric remotes that lock and unlock the doors and trunk come standard, but a convenient feature of the key remote has long gone unused by many car owners.

The remotes can often lower a car's windows, allowing owners to start airing out the car before hopping inside.

According to CNET, the trick usually involves pressing the remote's unlock button, releasing it, then pressing it again and holding down. In some cars, simply inserting the key in the lock, turning it counterclockwise, releasing, then turning it counterclockwise again and holding will do the trick.

The trick is usually explained in owner's manuals, but it has also been discussed online, although it has yet to gain widespread attention.

In order to try to confirm how many car keys could be used to roll down windows, CNET ultimately turned to social media, conducting an internal poll, and reaching out to Reddit users. Their combined list includes 19 makes and models so far. (Click here to see the list.)

Car owners who are intimidated by the often lengthy and sometimes complicated owner's manuals can find a wealth of resources online, often through Internet automative forums such as Edmunds.com or CarForums.net.

In 2009, automaker Chrysler began doing away with paper manuals, according to The New York Times. Instead, a slimmed-down user guide and DVD will come standard on Chrysler models, a move the company said will save 930 tons of paper annually, or 20,000 trees.

Teh chamomile hangat juga dapat mengurangi sakit tenggorokan karena bisa mengatasi peradangan. Seduh dua kantung teh chamomile dengan satu cangkir air mendidih. Jika ingin mendapat rasa manis, Anda bisa menambahkan madu.

3. Kumur dengan campuran kunyit, air, dan garam

Android Kit Kat Diperkirakan Dirilis Oktober 2013

Isu soal penerus OS Android kembali menyeruak saat Kit Kat mengupdate Twitter resminya. Muncul dugaan bahwa Android 4.4 KitKat bakal meluncur bulan ini.

Twitter Kit Kat kini memakai foto profil robot Android yang terbuat dari cokelat alias logo resmi. Pada 15 Oktober mereka mengunggah gambar si robot coklat dengan tangan terangkat. "Everybody dance now! #AndroidKITKAT," tulis keterangannya.

Lalu pada hari berikutnya mereka mengunggah lagi poster bertuliskan "This is it" yang tersusun dari batangan Kit Kat. "Kadang kalian harus mencari tanda-tandanya," tweet akun tersebut yang semakin membuat orang penasaran.

"This is it" sendiri diketahui sebagai judul film konser Michael Jackson yang dirilis pada 28 Oktober 2009. Sedangkan "Everybody Dance Now" merupakan lagu milik C+C Music Factory yang sebenarnya bernama 28th Street Crew. Tak pelak, muncul dugaan kuat bahwa Android KitKat akan dipublikasikan pada 28 Oktober nanti.

Sebelumnya sudah ramai beredar rumor bahwa OS Android KitKat ini akan dirilis bersamaan dengan Nexus 5 pada akhir bulan ini. Ya, Android KitKat yang debut perdana sebagai OS Nexus 5. Tahun lalu Google mengumumkan Nexus 4 pada 29 Oktober.

Red Moon and Other Lunar Eclipse Phenomena

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon. Although the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, the lunar disk remains partially illuminated by sunlight that is refracted and scattered by the Earth’s atmosphere.
Refraction is the bending of light that occurs when the rays pass through media of different densities (our atmosphere is more dense near the surface and less dense higher up). Scattering of sunlight by molecules of air also deflects the light into different directions, and this occurs with much greater efficiency at shorter (bluer) wavelengths, which is why the daylight sky appears blue. As we view the sun near sunrise or sunset the light traverses a longer path through the atmosphere than at midday, and when the air is relatively clear, the absence of shorter wavelengths causes the solar disk to appear orange.

Tiny airborne particles, also known as aerosols, also scatter sunlight. The relative efficiency of the scattering at different wavelengths depends on the size and composition of the particles. Pollution and dust in the lower atmosphere tends to subdue the color of the rising or setting sun, whereas fine smoke particles or tiny aerosols lofted to high altitudes during a major volcanic eruption can deepen the color to an intense shade of red.

If you were standing on the Moon’s surface during a lunar eclipse, you would see the Sun setting and rising behind the Earth, and you’d observe the refracted and scattered solar rays as they pass through the atmosphere surrounding our planet. Viewed from the Earth, these rays “fill in” the Earth’s shadow cast upon the lunar surface, imparting the Moon’s disk with a faint orange or reddish glow. Just as we sometimes observe sunrises and sunsets with different shades of orange, pink or red due to the presence of different types of aerosols, the color of the eclipsed lunar disk is also affected by the types of particles that are present in the Earth’s atmosphere at the time the eclipse occurs.

Adobe Source Code Theft Unlikely To Cause Spike In Exploits

Access to the firm's code for Acrobat, ColdFusion, and Publisher products will make flaws easer to find, but experts disagree whether exploitation will also be easier

The theft of Adobe's source code from some of its most popular products will likely result in an increase in vulnerabilities found in those products, but security experts are currently debating whether the leaked code will also lead to a greater number of exploits in the coming months.

The answer likely depends on the product, says Dan Guido, CEO for security consultancy Trail of Bits. Adobe Acrobat has a number of anti-exploitation technologies built into the software that will make any attempt to exploit known vulnerabilities much harder, he says. While Acrobat has more than 13 million lines of code -- and likely a passel of undiscovered vulnerabilities -- Adobe's implementation of address space layout randomization (ASLR), a sandbox, and the broker process reduces the attack surface area significantly, he says.

"There is a security model and runtime security system that Acrobat has that are separate from the source code," he says. "The effectiveness of ASLR, of the sandbox, and the other application-specific protections don't get reduced by someone having access to the source code."

On the other hand, the source code for ColdFusion, which lacks some of the same security features, could help attackers more easily produce attacks, he adds. ColdFusion "is a complicated Web application stack, and typically when we talk about Web applications, discovery of a vulnerability is nearly equivalent to exploitation," Guido says.

On Oct. 3, Adobe announced that the source code for Adobe Acrobat, ColdFusion, and ColdFusion Builder had been stolen and found on the Internet. Security researcher and journalist Brian Krebs and security consultant Alex Holden had notified the company that the code had been found on servers connected with the group that breached information services firm Lexis Nexis and risk management firm Kroll.

Holden raised the possibility that the source code leak could lead to a surge in exploitation.

"While we are not aware of specific use of data from the source code, we fear that disclosure of encryption algorithms, other security schemes, and software vulnerabilities can be used to bypass protections for individual and corporate data," Alex Holden of consultancy Hold Security stated in a blog post.?"Effectively, this breach may have opened a gateway for new generation of viruses, malware, and exploits."

In many ways, the fact that a software development company loses its crown jewels should not make a difference to the security of the software, says Mike Armistead, vice president and general manager of enterprise security products at HP Fortify. While Armistead declined to comment on the theft of Adobe's source code, he argues that developers should attempt to design their products in a way that disrupts attackers at each stage of their attempt to exploit vulnerabilities.

"What we are trying to do with our software security strategy is disrupt the adversary," he says. "You need to think about your overall architecture when you are designing your software, and you have to have threat models."

To a large extent, Adobe has done just that. The company, which declined to comment for this article, revamped its software architecture for its Reader software to include a protected mode that logically separates any PDF file in a sandbox, which can then only communicate with other operating system processes through a process known as the broker. The broker process acts as a firewall between the Adobe sandbox and the operating system, only allowing a very small subset of activities.

In its statement online, however, the company did say it was remaining vigilant. "Based on our findings to date, we are not aware of any specific increased risk to customers as a result of this incident," Brad Arkin, chief security officer for the firm, stated in a post online.

Given those efforts, the breach may be more embarrassing than threatening for Adobe, but the company still needs to assess the threat to its hundreds of millions of customers, says Rahul Kashyap, chief security architect for software security firm Bromium, whose products run untrusted software and files in isolated virtual machines to prevent system exploitation.

"This is a very tough situation for Adobe," Kashyap says. "They have to continue doing their software development life cycle (SDL) process, but they might want to get a group of third-party auditors to check the code and find vulnerabilities."

China Sex Film Mistakenly Shown On Big Screen In Jilin

A film banned as pornography in China was accidentally shown on a large LED screen in a public square in Jilin province, Chinese media report.

Xin Jin Ping Mei (known in English as The Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks) was reportedly played to a surprised public for about 10 minutes.

A technician had been watching the film on his computer without realising it was connected to the LED screen. He was meant to have been repairing the screen, reports said.

The advertising company that owned the screen alerted the technician, identified as Yuan Mou, to the live broadcast.

Mr Yuan then unplugged his computer and threw the disc out of the window, according to Chinese media reports.

However, news of the accidental broadcast quickly spread, and photos of the film playing over the main square near Jilin railway station went viral online.

The incident is said to have taken place last week and reports said that police are investigating.

Chinese microblog users primarily reacted to the incident with amusement.

Microblogger Exclusive Title described Xin Jin Ping Mei as a "class A Hong Kong film", while user Oriental Emperor wrote: "It's not broadcasting a sex tape of one of our officials, what's the big fuss?", referring to the recent scandal of a former Chongqing official.

The film Xin Jin Ping Mei is based on the 17th Century Chinese novel, known as The Plum in the Golden Vase.

The version broadcast is widely reported to be a Hong Kong remake of the film, with the English name: The Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks. China has tight regulations controlling which films can be broadcast, including politically sensitive films and some pornographic films.

Russian Proton-M Rocket Explodes On Take-Off

A Russian booster rocket carrying three satellites has crashed at a cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Spectacular footage showed the Proton-M rocket veering off course seconds after its launch in the early hours, before erupting into a ball of flames and unleashing clouds of noxious black smoke.

"It seems something is going wrong," said a television commentator during the live coverage of the launch.

"Something is wrong. It seems it will be a catastrophe," said the presenter, his voice trembling, shortly before the rocket exploded.

The rocket was supposed to take three Russian Glonass-M navigation satellites into space.

The Russian space agency Roskosmos said there appeared to be no casualties, adding it could not immediately say whether areas near the crash site were being evacuated.

"A rocket carrier fell to the ground and exploded on the territory of the (Baikonur) cosmodrome," the space agency said in a statement.

Kazakh officials said the fumes from the rocket fuel consisting of 600 tons of highly poisonous kerosene, heptyl and amyl might present a danger to the local population.

Residents of several nearby towns were told to stay indoors and keep their windows shut.

The Russian space program has been a source of national pride in the country since it sent the first man into space in 1961 after launching the first Sputnik satellite four years earlier.

But, more recently, Russia has suffered several major setbacks, notably losing expensive satellites and an unmanned supply ship to the International Space Station.

Russia suffered a disaster at the same cosmodrome in 1960 when a prototype rocket exploded on the launch pad and released the highly poisonous rocket fuel known as the "devil's venom".

The Russian space agency referred to that tragedy as a veritable "inferno" - 126 people were burned alive or vaporised altogether, while others died of noxious fumes or succumbed to burns later.

The Soviet Union, which was then locked in an arms race with the US, imposed total secrecy over the disaster and the files were only declassified in the 1990s.

Pilotless Passenger Planes Prepare For Take-Off

It is a familiar part of flying. As you taxi towards the runway, a crackly voice is heard over the intercom. The pilot’s brief summary of the route, flight time, and weather conditions are designed to inform but also to reassure. The familiar refrain tells passengers the plane is in safe, human hands and they can relax and enjoy the flight.

But the phrase “this is your captain speaking” may soon become a thing of the past, thanks to a new generation of robotic, passenger aircraft that will take to the skies by themselves.

“We believe that unmanned aircraft are the next big transformation in the aviation industry,” says Doug Davis, director of the unmanned aircraft programme at New Mexico State University.

Of course, the military already know this. Automatic landing systems have been used for years to help pilots drop F-18 aircraft on to the narrow landing strips on top of aircraft carriers. Then there is the rise of drone warfare. These planes are still flown remotely by pilots on the ground, but most have the capability to follow a predefined flight path and even land themselves if they get into serious trouble or the link between the ground is broken. The next generation, such as the US Navy’s X-47B, will be even more advanced, with onboard intelligence that will allow it to adapt its course and fly with only minimal input from a pilot.

Pilots: Numbered

The path to this automated future began almost 100 years ago with the introduction of the first autopilot. These systems – designed to keep a plane on a steady, pre-programmed heading and altitude – introduced the first automation into the cockpit, allowing the pilot to step away from the controls.

Over the next century, this trend gathered pace, packing modern aircraft with sophisticated electronics, which often relegate the human to a passive observer. In fact, in some modern aircraft the pilot is only needed to taxi the aircraft to the runway. Everything else from take-off to landing can be automated.

“The technology is here,” says Missy Cummings, an ex military pilot who is now associate professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

She points to the rise of so-called fly-by-wire technology, which has replaced the mechanical link between the pilot and the plane’s engines and control surfaces with computer signals sent down a copper wire.

“Any fly-by-wire plane can be an [Unmanned Aerial Vehicle],” she explains. “The controls are digital, not analogue, everything is done electronically so you don’t need a person in there to push a hydraulic actuator.”

To prove the point, technology company BAE Systems recently flew a converted Jetstream aircraft – known as “The Flying Test Bed” – with no pilot in UK air space. The trial flights did have people on board, allowing a human to take control in an emergency. But, for the large part, it flew itself.

But while it is one thing to conduct test flights with pilots on hand in case of an emergency, it is quite another to pack 350 passengers on to plane and send them on their way across the Atlantic with no one at the front. As a result, autonomous flight technology is likely to be adopted in stages.

Already, we are in an era when planes are flown by just two pilots, down for a peak of around five a few decades ago. In the near future increasing automation will mean that number drops to one.  And then the next stage could see planes piloted from the ground, like military and scientific craft.

The final stage will be to remove the human control altogether. To do, that planes will have to be capable of complex decision making. “The plane has to know its position, its current state, where it’s going, what the winds are, its orientation, that kind of thing,” says Davis. “You’re going to need continuous health monitors to know when your systems are degrading. And it’s not only avoiding collisions, but it’s also not causing collisions.” In other words, a plane will need to be aware of its surroundings and be able to plot a new path that is not disruptive to other users of the skies - intelligence known as “sense and avoid”.

This is currently the pilot’s job, who can look at radar and even glance out of the window. But machine vision is not easy and requires video-cameras, sensors and powerful computers to interpret what they were seeing in real time.

But progress is being made in this area. You only need to look at the rise of the autonomous car to see that computers are getting better and better at viewing an interpreting their surroundings.

Current UAVs – even those controlled by a pilot – also already have some sense-and-avoid capability, to account for the tiny lag between an operator sending an instruction and it being delivered to a plane. Professor Cummings believes that capability is only going to get bigger. “In the aircraft that we have today, there is a lot of decision making on the ground about what to do next. In autonomous aircraft, much of the decision making is made onboard, by the aircraft.”

Dr John Tracey, chief technology officer at Boeing, agrees. He sees no need for decisions to always be made on the ground by Air traffic Control.

“The current Air Traffic Management System (ATM) we have is based on 1950s technology,” he told me at a recent technology summit in Silicon Valley. “It’s based on the assumption that the airplane does not know where it is, cannot figure out how to go from where it is to where is needs to be, that is doesn’t know where anyone else is, and that the purpose of ATM is to keep planes separated. Those are all false.”

He believes the current system based on ground based radar, and a controller who uses voice commands to “say to the pilot ‘turn left, turn right, go up, go down,’” is very inefficient.

“The new planes that we deliver already have the capabilities built into them to use GPS satellites, to allow them to fly on the most optimum flight path,” Dr Tracy says.

The next step would be to allow aircraft to make more decisions for themselves and respond to other planes and weather patterns by themselves.

Safety in numbers

Of course, some communication with the aircraft will still be vital – certainly in the early days - and planes will have to be able to communicate with each other. And, this could be a major challenge, says Doug Davis as more of the airwaves are assigned to other uses such as mobile phone networks. “One of the underbellies of unmanned aircraft technology is available frequency spectrum,” he says. “If we don’t have enough spectrum for command and control it is going to cause a lot of problems for our bandwidth needs for the future.”

However, plane makers clearly believe the problem can be cracked. Aircraft manufacturer Airbus recently released its view of the future of aviation towards 2050 and beyond, and one of the things it stressed was the benefit of planes that can fly themselves. In an extreme proposal, it suggests passenger planes might fly together in flocks, which can result in huge energy savings. They would keep in sync by constantly monitoring their position relative to one another.

While everyone seems confident that the technical challenges of such visions can be overcome, there is perhaps one more significant hurdle to overcome - persuading the general public that a plane without a pilot is safe.

On that point, Professor Cummings says the data is increasingly in favour of unmanned systems. “About three years ago UAVs became safer than general aviation, meaning that more general aviation planes are crashing than UAVs, per 100,000 flight hours,” she says.

“So UAVs are actually safer than a weekend pilot, flying a small plane.”

That may not be a huge surprise. But what is perhaps more telling is that last year UAVs became safer than highly trained military fighters and bombers. “I knew that was coming, and it’s one of the reasons I jumped into this field and left commercial piloting and military piloting behind,” says Prof Cummings

Yet data may not be enough, she acknowledges. “The reason that you like a pilot in the plane is because ultimately he or she shares the same fate that you do,” she says. “So if the plane is about to go down, you feel better knowing that there is a human in the front seat doing everything that they can to save their own life.”

'We Got Him!': Boston Bombing Suspect Captured Alive

The Boston Marathon bombing suspect was captured alive but wounded Friday night — after holing up in a boat in a suburban backyard following a bloody rampage that left a cop dead and a daylong manhunt that shut down the city.

The arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, and the earlier death of his brother during a firefight with cops, ended five days of terror sowed by the double bombing at the marathon finish line, which killed three people, wounded 176 and left the city of Boston on edge.

"We got him," Boston Mayor Tom Menino tweeted.

"CAPTURED!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won," the Boston Police Department said on its Twitter account.

Cops cheered as the suspect was taken into custody in Watertown, Mass., just before 9 p.m. Later, the people of Watertown flooded the streets, cheering every passing police car and armored vehicle in an impromptu parade. Chants of "USA! USA!" broke out. In Boston, people danced in the streets outside Fenway Park.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, has been apprehended after a day-long manhunt in a Massachusetts neighborhood. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

Police cornered Tsarnaev -- a naturalized U.S. citizen of Chechen origin -- around 7 p.m., less than an hour after police lifted a stay-indoors order for the city and its suburbs.

A resident had gone outside to smoke and noticed a tarp on the boat was flapping, a relative told NBC News. When he went to investigate, he saw what looked like a curled-up person and bloody clothes.

The man "freaked out," ran into the house and called police, the relative said.

Thermal imaging from helicopters confirmed there was a person in the boat, officials said.

Over the course of two hours, several bursts of gunfire could be heard. The police exchanged fire with Tsarnaev, threw flash-bang grenades designed to disorient him and brought a negotiator to the scene as night fell, officials said.

Just before 9 p.m., the wounded Tsarnaev was taken into custody. "He sustained significant blood loss," a law enforcement official at the scene said.

As an ambulance took the suspect to Boston Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital — where he was in serious condition — people lining the streets applauded in joy and relief.

“We are so grateful to be here right now, so grateful to able to bring justice and closure to this case,” Massachusetts State Police Col. Timothy Alben said at a briefing. “We’re exhausted, folks, but we have a victory here.”

President Barack Obama praised the outcomes but said many questions remained. Among them, he said: “Why did young men who grew up and studied here as part of our communities and our country resort to such violence?”

Who is bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev? Former classmate Dylan Whitaker and former neighbors Susan Musinsky and "Emily" described the person they once knew to MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell.

Authorities are also not sure of a motive or whether the suspects had help. Even as the standoff took place in Watertown, the FBI was taking three people in for questioning in New Bedford, Mass., who were believed to be former roommates of Tsarnaev.

But the president declared: “Whatever hateful agenda drove these men to such heinous acts will not, cannot, prevail. Whatever they thought they could achieve, they’ve already failed.”

Tsarnaev will be questioned by a federal team called the High Value Detainee Interrogation Group, which includes officials of the FBI, CIA, and Defense Department, an Obama administration official said.

His apprehension capped a manhunt that had the city of Boston and its suburbs on total lockdown after the execution of a college campus patrol officer, a carjacking and the death of Tsarnaev's 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan, during a 200-bullet confrontation with cops.

The overnight violence had triggered an extraordinary shutdown of transportation, schools and businesses in Boston and its suburbs, with police warning more than a million people to hunker down behind locked doors while SWAT teams fanned out and bomb squads collected seven homemade explosive devices.

The brothers' bloody last stand began about five hours after the FBI released surveillance photos of two "extremely dangerous" men suspected of planting two bombs near the finish line of Monday's Boston Marathon, killing three and wounding 176.

Police are at the Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, haven't yet entered the building, suspecting it may be booby-trapped. NBC's Ron Allen reports.

Tips about the identity of the suspects were still pouring in when the Tsarnaev brothers fatally shot Massachusetts Institute of Technology officer Sean Collier, 26, in his vehicle at 10:20 p.m., law enforcement officials said.

The brothers then carjacked a Mercedes SUV, holding the driver captive for a half-hour while they tried to use his cash card to get money from three ATM's, a source said. At the first, they put in the wrong number; at the second, they took out $800 and at the third, they were told they had exceeded the withdrawal limit, the source said.

The carjacking victim was released unharmed at a gas station in Cambridge, sources said. He told police the brothers said they were the marathon bombers and had just killed a campus officer.

As the duo sped in his car toward Watertown, a police chase ensued and they tossed explosive devices out the window, officials said.

There was a long exchange of gunfire, according to Andrew Kitzenberg of Watertown, who took photos of the clash from his window and shared them via social media.

“They were also utilizing bombs, which sounded and looked like grenades, while engaging in the gunfight,” he told NBC News in an interview. “They also had what looked like a pressure-cooker bomb.

“I saw them light this bomb. They threw it towards the officers,” he said. “There was smoke that covered our entire street.”

A transit officer, identified as Richard H. Donahue, 33, was seriously injured during the pursuit. Authorities said he underwent surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital.

Kitzenberg said he saw the firefight end when Tamerlan Tsarnaev ran toward the officers and ultimately fell to the ground.

Tamerlan -- the man in the black hat from FBI photos released six hours earlier -- had an improvised explosive device strapped to his chest, law enforcement officials said.

Dzhokhar -- the brother who was wearing a white hat in the surveillance photos from the marathon -- got away when he drove the SUV through a line of police officers at the end of the street, Kitzenberg said.

Law enforcement sources told NBC News that blood found at the scene suggested Dzhokhar may have been wounded in the gun battle.

During the lockdown, subways and buses were shut down, Amtrak service to Boston was cut, and college campuses were closed. The Red Sox and Boston Bruins' home games were canceled.

Watertown was the epicenter of the search. Frightened residents were trapped inside as convoys of heavily armed officers and troops arrived by the hour and snipers perched on rooftops and in backyards.

When police finally gave residents the OK to venture outside, some cheered as they stepped outside, only to be swept back inside when shots rang out, and police converged on Tsarnaev's hideout.

An administration official said Tsarnaev was not read his Miranda rights and could be questioned without them for up to 48 hours under a special legal exception used in cases where public safety is at stake.

In a statement late Friday, The FBI said they interviewed Tamerlan in early 2011, following a tip from "a foreign government" that he was "a follower of radical Islam" and was preparing to leave the United States to join underground organizations.

The FBI said its interview two years ago of Tsarnaev and his family, along with checks of travel records, Internet activity and personal associations, "did not find any terrorism activity" at the time.

Police: One Boston Bombing Suspect Dead, Another On The Run.

(CNN) -- Police sealed off densely populated portions the Boston metro area early Friday after a violent night of chasing the Boston Marathon terror suspects left one of the men and a police officer dead.

Police ordered businesses in the suburb of Watertown and nearby communities to stay closed and told residents to stay inside and answer the door for no one but authorities. Boston authorities advised the same. The city's subway, bus and Amtrak train systems have been shut down. Taxi service across the city was suspended. Every Boston area school is closed.

"It's jarring," said CNN Belief blog writer Danielle Tumminio, who lives in Watertown.

Boston's public transit authority sent city buses to Watertown to evacuate residents while bomb experts combed the surroundings for possible explosives.

Police shot one of the men dead after a wild car chase through Watertown in which authorities say they hurled explosives at pursuing officers.

Police believe the men are the same ones pictured in images released Thursday by the FBI as suspects in the marathon bombing that killed three people Monday.

The men are shown in the images walking together near the marathon finish line.

Several sources told CNN that the dead suspect has been identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26. The one still being sought is Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, age 19.

The first suspect, the one believed killed by police, appears in the images wearing a dark hat, sunglasses and a backpack. The second suspect, wearing a white cap, is the one who remains at large, police said.

Police warned Watertown residents to lock their homes and stay away from their windows and doors.

Federal, state and local law officers are swarming through Watertown, going door-to-door to track him down, said Massachusetts State Police spokesman Col. Timothy Alben.

Police officers in full body armor, carrying automatic weapons, flooded the area as authorities praised residents for their cooperation.

"We need more time," Alben said. "We're making significant progress up there. But it may take hours to do this."

"This situation is grave." Alben said earlier. "This is a very serious situation that we are dealing with."

The violence began late Thursday with the robbery of a 7/11 convenience store, he said. Soon after, in Cambridge, across the Charles River from Boston, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was fatally shot while he sat in his car, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said in statement. Police believe the bombing suspects were responsible for the shooting.

The same two suspects, according to authorities, then hijacked a car at gunpoint in Cambridge. They released the driver a half-hour later at a gas station.

As police picked up the chase, the car's occupants threw explosives out the windows and shot at officers, according to the district attorney's office.

Officers fired back, wounding one of the men, possibly the person identified by the FBI as suspect No. 1, who is seen in the images released Thursday in a dark cap, sunglasses and wearing a black backpack.

The man died at Beth Israel Hospital. He had bullet wounds and injuries from an explosion, according to officials. The second man apparently escaped on foot.

Richard H. Donohue Jr., 33, a three-year veteran of the transit system police force, was shot and wounded in the incident and taken to a hospital, a transit police spokesman said Friday. The officer's condition was not immediately known.

CNN photographer Gabe Ramirez arrived in Watertown as the chase ended.

"Police were in a standoff with the vehicle just down the hill," Ramirez said. They ordered one suspect out and commanded him to strip down completely naked before putting him in a patrol car, which did not leave the scene.

The man was later released and is not a suspect in the case.

But while the man was being held, FBI agents approached the squad car, and police ordered the man back out of the car. FBI agents questioned him -- still fully undressed -- on the sidewalk.

In an early phase of the lockdown, a man could be seen lying face down on the street with his hands outstretched in front of him and his legs crossed. It is unclear whether this was the man who was arrested and ordered to undress.

Details about suspects

According to a source briefed on the investigation, the suspects involved in the Boston bombing are originally from the Russian Caucasus and had moved to Kazakhstan at a young age before coming to the United States several years ago.

Another source, from federal law enforcement, also told CNN that the man being sought has been in the United States for at least a couple of years.

The man identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older brother, had studied at Bunker Hill Community College and wanted to become a engineer, the source said. He then took a year off to train as a boxer.

The source told CNN's Deborah Feyerick that a posting on a social media site in his name included the comments: "I don't have a single American friend. I don't understand them."

The source added that it should not be assumed that either brother was radicalized because of their Chechen origins.

Malaysia Bombs Armed Filipino Group In Sabah

Malaysian troops backed by fighter jets have attacked an armed Filipino group, trying to end a standoff on Borneo island after violence that killed at least 27 people and sparked fears of broader insecurity in the resource-rich region.

Planes bombed the area in eastern Sabah state on Tuesday for more than 30 minutes before hundreds of ground troops moved in to search for around 180 members of the self-proclaimed Royal Sulu Army believed to be hiding near a coastal palm-oil plantation, Malaysian officials said.

The armed group, who hail from the southern Philippines, landed in a coastal village in Sabah on February 9 to claim the territory as their own, citing ownership documents from the late 1800s.

Police inspector general Ismail Omar told reporters the mission's goals had been accomplished and there were no Malaysian casualties, without giving further details.

Relatives of the group who have been in touch with the gunmen by phone from Manila said they had survived the bombardment.

"They are safe, they are intact," Abraham Idjirani, a spokesman for the group, told Philippine television.

Political crisis

The violence has sparked a political crisis ahead of elections in Malaysia as well as the Philippines. Both governments say they are investigating allegations of opposition involvement.

Dozens of people have been protesting outside the Malaysian embassy in the Philippines capital Manila in support of the group in Sabah.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who faces a tough election within weeks, has come under pressure to take a firm stance against the group, which arrived by boat about three weeks ago claiming to be descendants of the southern Philippines' sultanate of Sulu.

The insecurity has disrupted operations in Sabah's huge palm oil industry and prolonged trouble could dampen growing investor interest in energy and infrastructure projects in the state, although the main oil fields are far from the trouble.

Oil majors such as ConocoPhillips and Shell have poured in billions of dollars to develop oil and gas fields in Sabah. Chinese companies have been investing in hydro-power and coal mining.

Two policemen were killed along with 12 fighters when Malaysian security forces tried to tighten a cordon around the group on Friday, sparking more violence over the weekend.

"The longer this invasion lasts, it is clear to the authorities that the invaders do not intend to leave Sabah," Najib said on Tuesday, adding that negotiations with the estimated 100 to 300 members of the group had gone nowhere.

"The government must take action to safeguard the dignity and sovereignty of the country as required by the people."

The violence presents Najib with a security headache that could delay an election that must be held by June, adding to nervousness among investors over what could be the country's closest ever polls.

Centuries-old claim

The Royal Sulu Army are demanding an increased payment from Malaysia for their claim as the rightful owners of Sabah.


The Malaysian government continues to pay the Kiram clan of Sulu a supposed annual rent of $1,500 for the use of more than 73,000 square kilometres of land in Sabah.

Malaysia has refused their demands and, along with the Philippine government, has urged the group to return home.

The violence has sparked a political crisis ahead of elections for both the Philippine and Malaysian governments and raised concerns of instability in resource-rich Sabah state.

The crisis also comes a crucial stage of peace negotiations arranged by Malaysia between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the largest Muslim rebel group in the southern Philippines.

The group has ignored appeals from Aquino to leave Sabah or face prosecution at home on charges of triggering armed conflict.

Pasangan Berkeliling Dunia dengan Sepeda, Tewas di Thailand

Sepasang warga negara Inggris yang sedang melakukan perjalanan keliling dunia dengan sepeda tewas karena kecelakaan di Thailand.

Peter Root dan Mary Thompson, yang mengabadikan perjalanan mereka dalam sebuah blog, meninggal Rabu pekan lalu saat tertabrak truk pick-up di sebuah provinsi di timur Bangkok, menurut kepolisian Thailand, Senin kemarin.

Pasangan tersebut yang sama-sama berusia 34 tahun berasal dari Guernsey di Kepulauan Channel. Mereka meninggalkan Inggris pada Juli 2011 dan telah bersepeda melewati Eropa, Timur Tengah, Asia Tengah, dan Cina.

Perjalanan tersebut adalah pengalaman sekali seumur hidup buat pasangan yang bertemu saat bersama-sama menjadi mahasiswa seni. Mereka menabung dan merencanakan perjalanan tersebut selama enam tahun, kata ayah Peter, Jerry Root pada Associated Press pada sebuah wawancara.

"Keduanya adalah inspirasi," kata Jerry Root. "Mereka tak hanya ngomong, tapi mereka melakukan sesuatu. Saya sangat bangga dengan mereka."

Menurut Root, Peter dan Mary adalah pesepeda berpengalaman yang menyadari risiko dan kesulitan dari perjalanan bersepeda dalam waktu lama.

Video yang mereka unggah ke situs menampilkan mereka berkemah di gurun pasir, bersepeda di perbukitan, berhenti untuk berenang di sungai dan danau, serta berpacu di tengah badai salju berat. Mereka juga bersepeda melewati situasi politik gentik di tengah konflik bersenjata di Tajikistan.

Ada juga video yang menunjukkan Mary Thompson mengalami luka di lututnya setelah tabrakan dengan truk. Kulit mereka terlihat coklat, wajah keduanya tampak bahagia dan santai -- meski agak berantakan karena angin -- dalam video-video tersebut. Menurut polisi Thailand Letkol Supachai Luangsukcharoen pada hari Senin, para penyelidik menemukan jenazah mereka, dua sepeda, dan barang-barang mereka tersebar di pinggir jalan, begitu pula dengan truk pickup yang ada di antara pepohonan.

Pengemudi truk, Worapong Sangkhawat, 25, juga terluka berat dalam kecelakaan tersebut. Kata Supachai, truk yang dikendarai Sangkhawat menabrak dua pesepeda tersebut saat ia sedang mengambil topi yang terjatuh dari lantai mobil.

Si pengemudi dilepaskan dengan jaminan dan kini menghadapi tuntutan menyebabkan kematian karena mengendarai mobil secara berbahaya. Hukuman maksimalnya adalah 10 tahun di penjara.

Jenazah pasangan ini disimpan di unit penyelamatan di Chachoengsao, 30 km timur Bangkok, sebelum dipulangkan ke Inggris.

Helpless Love

Once upon a time all feelings and emotions went to a coastal island for a vacation. According to their nature, each was having a good time. Suddenly, a warning of an impending storm was announced and everyone was advised to evacuate the island.

The announcement caused sudden panic. All rushed to their boats. Even damaged boats were quickly repaired and commissioned for duty.

Yet, Love did not wish to flee quickly. There was so much to do. But as the clouds darkened, Love realised it was time to leave. Alas, there were no boats to spare. Love looked around with hope.

Just then Prosperity passed by in a luxurious boat. Love shouted, “Prosperity, could you please take me in your boat?”

“No,” replied Prosperity, “my boat is full of precious possessions, gold and silver. There is no place for you.”

A little later Vanity came by in a beautiful boat. Again Love shouted, “Could you help me, Vanity? I am stranded and need a lift. Please take me with you.”

Vanity responded haughtily, “No, I cannot take you with me. My boat will get soiled with your muddy feet.”

Sorrow passed by after some time. Again, Love asked for help. But it was to no avail. “No, I cannot take you with me. I am so sad. I want to be by myself.”

When Happiness passed by a few minutes later, Love again called for help. But Happiness was so happy that it did not look around, hardly concerned about anyone.

Love was growing restless and dejected. Just then somebody called out, “Come Love, I will take you with me.” Love did not know who was being so magnanimous, but jumped on to the boat, greatly relieved that she would reach a safe place.

On getting off the boat, Love met Knowledge. Puzzled, Love inquired, “Knowledge, do you know who so generously gave me a lift just when no one else wished to help?”

Knowledge smiled, “Oh, that was Time.”

“And why would Time stop to pick me and take me to safety?” Love wondered.

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and replied, “Because only Time knows your true greatness and what you are capable of. Only Love can bring peace and great happiness in this world.”

“The important message is that when we are prosperous, we overlook love. When we feel important, we forget love. Even in happiness and sorrow we forget love. Only with time do we realize the importance of love. Why wait that long? Why not make love a part of your life today?”

Beberapa pihak membandingkan menara ini seperti trofi Piala Dunia, karena bagian puncaknya berbentuk bola kaca. Sementara pihak lain mempertanyakan kelanjutan menara ini mengingat lokasinya di Huaxi Village.

Dana untuk pembanguannya sebagian besar berasal dari warga desa, yang merayakan hari ulang tahun desanya ke-50 di saat yang bersamaan dengan pembukaan gedung tersebut secara resmi. Tiap warga memberikan uang sebesar 10 juta poundsterling.

“Bangunan ini merupakan simbol kolektivitas. Bangunan ini memiliki 800 kamar suite dan dapat menampung sekitar 2.000 orang. Ada sebuah ruang pameran, restoran berputar, kolam renang atap, dan kebun,” jelas Wakil Ketua Partai Desa Zhou Li.

Di lantai 60 ada pemandangan yang menakjubkan dan patung seekor sapi jantan yang dibuat dari satu ton emas. Tujuan utama dari pencakar langit ini adalah mengurangi beban mengingat desa ini memiliki sumber daya lahan yang terbatas.

Diharapkan juga hal ini akan membantu meningkatkan standar hidup rakyat Huaxi. Desa ini telah berubah secara signifikan selama 30 tahun terakhir dari desa miskin menjadi lokasi favorit berbagai perusahaan dan simbol pertumbuhan ekonomi negara.

Kini, desa Huaxi menarik para pebisnis di bidang shipping, tembakau, baja, dan tekstil. Warga di Huaxi Village pun bisa menikmati perawatan kesehatan dan pendidikan gratis.

Selain menara supertinggi dan patung lembu dari emas dengan nilai USD50 juta, kini Huaxi Village memiliki layanan taksi baru berupa helikopter.
